Prenatal Yoga

Practising with us during pregnancy

Joining a Class While Pregnant

Expectant mothers are welcome in our classes.

Yoga through pregnancy helps you stay in tune with a body and mind that change week by week, and makes room for the rest a healthy pregnancy asks for.

It eases the aches that come with pregnancy — pelvic misalignment, back pain, swelling, leg cramps, constipation — and builds the strength and stamina you will draw on during birth and in the months after.

Pregnancy can leave the mind as unsettled as the body. The breathing you learn in class is the same breathing that helps during contractions and pushing, and deep breathing and meditation can steady you when things feel uncertain.

What Prenatal Yoga Offers

  • Strength and stamina for birth and for caring for your baby
  • Relief from swelling, back pain and other physical complaints
  • Steadier moods as hormones shift
  • Gentle movement and better circulation
  • Pelvic alignment in the lead-up to birth
  • Breathing techniques you can use in labor
  • A sense of connection with your baby

Which Classes You Can Join

Any class marked with a leaf on the weekly schedule is open to expectant mothers. The days and times change from month to month, so please check the current schedule.

We also run Prenatal Yoga, a class designed specifically for pregnancy. See the classes page for details.

If you are new to yoga, a private lesson is a good place to start.

What to Bring

Comfortable clothes, a towel, socks or a shawl if you feel the cold, your Boshi Techo (Maternal and Child Health Handbook), something to drink (mineral water is sold at reception) and a yoga mat (mats are free to borrow).

Please consult your OB/GYN before joining any class.
